Yuan Qiu is a Young Chief Professor (青年首席教授) in the School of Cyber Science and Engineering at Southeast University (SEU), Nanjing, China. Prior to joining SEU in 2025, he was a research fellow hosted by Prof. Xiaokui Xiao from the School of Computing at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Prof. Bogdan Cautis from the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS@CREATE) at Singapore. He also worked as a Big Data Engineer for Volcano Engine of ByteDance in Hangzhou, China.
Yuan obtained his Ph.D. (2022) and M.Phil. (2019) degrees in Computer Science and Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), both under the supervision of Prof. Ke Yi. During undergraduate, he double majored in Mathematics and Economics, and in Computer Science. He obtained his B.Sc. (2017) degree with First Class Honors from HKUST.
Yuan's research is devoted to designing practical-and-rigorous algorithms for Database Systems (DB) and Private Query Processing (S&P). He likes working with well-defined problems that have provable lower and upper bounds through non-trivial analysis. His research interests include: database theory and systems; data security and privacy; data sketching and sampling; data streams; data structures.
